Flag mistake at UK-China ceremony

Commons all party flag group? Why does this exist?

BBC News reports: Mr Rosindell, MP for Romford and chairman of the Commons all-party flag group, said: “It’s an unbelievable flaw in protocol by Number 10.

“You would think they would know which way the flag was flown. Whoever is responsible for this should know better.”

The Union Jack presented upside-down is taken as a sign of distress when flown in that manner by a ship at sea. At any other time, however, it is regarded as an act of lese-majesty – an insult to the crown – and remains punishable as an act of treason. What say you Mendelson?? or is this another illuminati style reference?

In a modern context this whole flag-upside-down issue is just not relevant. Do you really think the navy still use this signal rather than their array of high-tech communications devices? No, this is simply an excuse for flag nerds (who apparently have their Commons group, for some reason which is not immediately clear) to show how clever they are.

In actuality the only impact of these complaints is to parade our nation’s hilariously overblown sense of self-importance in front of a global audience.
