A new twist in the vaccination hysteria tale

Apparently, the Daily Mail in Ireland and the Daily Mail in the UK are currently running seperate campaigns about the HPV Vaccine. Nothing unusual about that, you might think. It’s an important subject and the Daily Mail has a duty to be concerned.   But, y’see, ha, ha, here’s the thing.

The two editions of the paper are running campaigns both for and against the vaccine. That’s right, in Ireland, the newspaper is very firmly for it, but in the UK, on the other hand…. you get stories such as this.

The Daily Fail at its finest. So much failure its hard to know where to start. From the British side there’s the standard anti-vaccination pseudo-science we’ve seen before. On the Irish side there’s a standard nonsensical “why doesn’t the government do something” whining from a right-wing paper that typically promotes lower taxes and thus a SMALLER government. Then we have to decide whether they are so stupid that they didn’t think anyone would notice, or that they are so disorganised that they couldn’t co-ordinate their campaigns across the two publications.

We are watching the old media beast writhing around in it’s death throes here – the only slightly worrying thing is that there’s a lack of trustworthy sources springing up to replace it.
