Blessed was now-melted Sheffield superclub Republic’s boozy cheapo student remix of their world famous Gatecrasher night. With Matt Hardwick in the main room and 99p vodka Red Bulls it was a Monday night staple for the valley boys in the late 90s and early 00s. I always seemed to end up in the top room throwing some shapes to DJ Jeff House’s oldskool set, and this week music blog Dilated Choonz took me back to those happy times with some fantastic piano anthems.
Derek the Bandit is something like South Africa’s answer to Judge Jules but in one of the more unusual moves in dance music it now appears that he’s hanging up his headphones to take part in a pyramid scheme.
